What is Church Ministry
Ephesians 4:11

  1. Ministry is built on basic principles, not clever methods- Not ministry by imitation, but by incarnation (in flesh) Philippians 2:13 - It is God who works in you… for His good pleasure/purpose

  2. If the worker doesn’t get a blessing out of the work, something is radically wrong. Serving God isn’t punishment; it’s nourishment.  John 4:34 - My food is to do the will of Him tho sent me.

What is Church Ministry (Con’t)

  1. Christian service means invading a battleground, not a playground. Matthew 10:16 I am sending you out like sheep among wolves..be screwed, but innocent as doves 2 Cor 10:4 we fight with not weapons of the world- we have divine power to demolish strongholds

  2. Ministry takes place when divine resources meet human needs- Acts 3:6 In the name of Jesus
    a. Know the divine resource personally
    b. See the human need compassionately
    c. Become the channel of God’s mighty resources
    d. See that God along is glorified.

Saved, Changed, Waiting
Titus 2:11-14

  1. Grace has appeared with salvation for all people- v 11

  2. Grace trains us- live self control, upright and Godly lives- V12

  3. Grace gives us a future hope- waiting for our Blessed hope, the appearing of the Glory of our Great God and Savior, Jesus- V13

  4. Grace creates a new people - V 14

1.  I will always be fruitful

    A.  I will be fruitful

    B.  I will have spiritual discernment

    C.  Will need doubt my salvation

    D.  I will never fall as a Christian

     a.  Virtue - V5 Moral unrighteousness- excellent living- productive

     b.  Knowledge- V5- understanding of truth and how we live

     c.  Temperance - Vs 6- self -control - I don’t do as I please

     d. Patience V6 - Endurance

  1. What do you have? Our provision begins with what we already have

  2. What you have is enough when you respond in obedience (unlock the provision with obedience) 

  3. God fill what you make room for- God has an unlimited supply

Joy
Luke 2: 8-14
Nehemiah 8:10
The joy of the lord is the settled assurance that God is in control of all the details of my life, the confidence that ultimately everything is going to e alright and the deterimined choice to praise God in every situation. 

  1. God’s joy dwells in me when I fully comprehend that He wants me to live in Joy.  John 15:11 “My joy remain in you and that your joy may be full”

  2. God’ not dwells in me when I comprehend the magnitude of His love for me.  Hebrews 12:2  “who for the joy that was set before Him to the cross” ; Zephaniah 3:17  ...”He will rejoice over you with gladness, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing.”

  3. God’s joy swells in me when I love righteousness and hate evil.  Hebrews 1:9 “You have loved righteousness and hated lawlessness… God has anointed You with the oil of gladness”

  4. God’s joy swells in me when it is not circumstantial I Peter 1:8 “Who having

God Pleasing Faith
Hebrews 11:6-
1.  Facing the future without knowing the “what” - V 7 Noah prepared the ark for the salvation of his household
2.  Following God’s leading without knowing where -V 8-10 Abraham was called to go to his inheritance- not knowing where he was going
3.  Waiting for God’s timing without knowing when- V 8-10 Even after Abraham reached the Land promised him, he lived by faith
4.  Expecting a miracle without knowing “how”- V 11-12 By faith Abraham and Sarah was able to have a child even when they were old and Sarah was barren
5.  Trusting God’s purpose without knowing why- V19- Abraham was going to offer Isaac
6.  Continues to persist without knowing how long- V 24-26 Moses refused to be the son of Pharoah’s daughter - regarded disgrace for the sake of Christ

   1. Shut your mouth- V 29 - do not let any unwholesome words come from your mouth.  (speak with love, humility and honesty)

The Father to the Fatherless -
Psalm 68:5-6
   1.   God has a fatherly heart, especially to the fatherless
   2.  God commands His people to the orphan - we are to love those who are not like us
   3.  God adopts us as his children - Ephesians 1:4-5
   4.  Called to live as God’s Hands and Heart to the Fatherless James 1:27; Psalm 64:5-6

2 Cor 3:18- “But we all… being transformed into the same image from glory to glory..”
   2. There will be no transformation unless there is salvation

   3. Contemplation proceeds the transformation (deep thought contemplation)
   4. Transformation is a work in progress
   5. Let God transform you (with His spirit)

Joshua is the new leader of the Israelites

 They have to conquer 7 cities and they haven’t crossed the Jordan yet.

Be strong and courageous V 6, 7, 9, 

  1. We must remove all doubt -  once a goal is set, the enemy will want you and I to questions the worthiness of sacrificing for that goal

  2. We must conquer our fear
    a.  Fear will keep you in the desert
    b.  Hinders you from becoming from being all that you can be for God.

  3. We must constantly build our confidence- God hasn’t asked me to understand, but he has asked me to undertake
    a. Experience
    b. Emotions
    c  Excuses

  4. We must stay committed to God’s calling- every good idea has a problem with it

  1. Shining is a natural part of Christianity

  2. It’s absurd to try and hide the light

Tools God Uses to Teach Us

Psalms 25:4-5-  “show me your ways, guide me, and teach me”
  1.  The Grace of God - Titus 2:11-14 instructs us in what we should do and to look to His blessed hope…zealous for good works

  2. The Scriptures teach us- Tim 3:16-17 all scripture is given by inspiration of God and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof and instruction

  3.  God’s ministers 

  4. The eye of God- Psalm 32:8  God will instruct and teach you with my eye,

     What can we offer to God?

1. Praise and Thanksgiving - Pslams 50:14- offer to God a sacrifice of thanksgiving;  Psalm 50:23- thanksgiving honors    God; Hebrews 13:15- continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that acknowledge His name.

2.    Generosity- Heb 13:6- do good and share what you have - sacrifices are pleasing to Go

3.     Our obedience- I Samuel 15:22- To obey is better than sacrifice and to  listen

4.      Humble Repentance- Psalms 51:16-17. Have a broken heart

God Uses:

1.  Mature servants- V 1-4

2.  Humble servants- V 5

3.  Diverse servants- V5. Each has a task

4.  Unified servants- V 6- I planted, Apollos watered

refresh yourself in the Lord

Paul is defending his faith with God’s resurrection


1. Grace Defines Identity.

•    Our Identity is found in God’s Grace.

•    “But by the grace of God I am what I am,”

2. Grace Propels Us.

Grace will drive/equip you to work hard.

(Grace isn’t earned, but it doesn’t mean we sit still.)

“His grace toward me was not in vain. On the contrary, I worked harder than any of them…”

 3. Grace Deserves the Glory.

It’s not our doing or strength that we are who we are.

“Yet not I, but the grace of God that was with me.  Paul never took the credit, even in his hardest times or work. He acknowledges that the power was not his own.
